Humans do the best they can to try to understand the environment, but sadly, sometimes we are wrong. You have discovered that science misconceptions are being kept alive in classrooms and in textbooks. You have only scratched the surface of these misconceptions. I think that the best way to understand scientific concepts is to address them head on by addressing these misconceptions.

 
I encourage you to investigate other misconceptions such as why the sky is blue, gravity in space is zero, the space shuttle is heated during re-entry because of friction, and electrons flow inside wires.
