Misconceptions: The first step in the constructivist model is the Engagement Phase. However, some cognitive scientists recommend that the first phase should be to identify misconceptions. Students may have already developed ideas of how the world works and it is our job as teachers to address their misconceptions. The worksheets direct students to websites that explain common misconceptions in science teaching and textbooks. Many people criticize science textbooks for their glaring errors, but for me, the errors provide a valuable way to engage students. |
