Appleworks
Spreadsheet Instructions
Open Appleworks then open the Spreadsheet option.
Type Data in Column A and Column B; make sure each Column has a title
Highlight all data and go to OPTION then to MAKE CHART
Select either PIE or BAR
Select the chart and go to EDIT and then to CHART OPTIONS
If you use a Bar
Chart:
Choose Axes and label X
and Y axis
Explore tick marks and
grid lines to see your options
Minimum, Maximum and Step Size are important and
should relate to how many are ion your survey (Minimum=0, Maximum= could be
total number surveyed. Step Size means the increments shown on chart)
Go back to EDIT then
CHART OPTIONS and explore the options for color, shadow, 3-D, and horizontal.
You can also go to EDIT
then CHART OPTIONS and choose SERIES
You can choose to label the data here, and change
chart style.
Under LABELS you can change the Chart Title, put a
shadow on it and get rid of the “legend” (which is sometimes redundant and
takes up too much space)
If you use a PIE
CHART:
Choose EDIT then CHART OPTIONS to label the data
by percentage (how many of the whole pie have a certain eye color, for example)
To do this, go to CHART
OPTIONS and choose SERIES.
Choose % in slice, etc.
You also have the option to “explode” the pie, put
shadow and 3-D on it and other customizations (all in CHART OPTIONS)
It is VERY important that you always include and ANALYSIS OF YOUR DATA
with any comparison chart that you do! It’s up to you to interpret your data.
To do this, write a description of what your chart means as well as any
conclusions that you can make as a result of this chart. Interpret your data and try to draw a
conclusion from it. This is a CRITICAL THINKING SKILL and relates to the
LEARNING RESULTS that you are expected to learn before you graduate!
