iBook Internet Troubleshooting Checklist

for student and teachers

If an iBook is not connecting to the Internet suddenly, here are some steps you can take yourself BEFORE bringing the iBook to your Technical Lead for repair:

o Check the Airport on your iBook:

Make sure the airport is on by looking to make sure the icon in the top right corner of your iBook screen is both showing and black (not gray). Turn it off (take the check off) and then turn it on again (put the check back) and try to open the Internet again. Doing this should force the iBook to send out a new request to the airport and often solves the connection issue.

Make sure to fully quit Internet and then re-open it so the changes take place

o Check the Airport Base Station in the classroom:

Make sure the Base Station (round white circle on the wall) in your classroom is on and has all three lights blinking (if it is frozen or if only one light shows as green, it will need to be unplugged and reset by a teacher or a tall student)

o      Check the “Location” on your iBook:

Go to the Blue Apple (top left corner) on your screen and choose Location and make sure it is set to “My School”.  Sometimes after MLTI Training’s or MEA Testing, people forget to put the location back to “My School”. This is essential because “My School” has our “proxy server address” in it, whereas the other locations do not and so you can not connect to the Internet at school unless “My School” is checked.

Make sure to fully quit Internet and then re-open it so the changes take place

o      Check the Proxy Settings:

Have a teacher log into the machine as “teacher” or as “admin”. Go to System Preferences then to Network and check that the Proxy Address (172.16.30.5) is entered correctly under “My School” location and the Proxy tab.

Make sure to fully quit Internet and then re-open so the changes take place

o If none of the above fixes the connection problem, ask the following questions and give this information to the MLTI Tech Lead at your school:

Has this iBook EVER connected to the Internet?

-if not, email the network engineer with airport ID and asset number

Was this iBook recently sent out for repair or did it recently come from another school?

-if so, the proxy address may need to re-enetered
