Portland High School and Deering High School Staffing Review:

 

Summary of Findings:

 

PHS:

 

A/B Schedule- 4 Classes per day- 75 min classes

47-49 Credits typically accomplished by graduation- 12 cr per year

Time Management- HW every other night, can seek help on off days, yr long classes vital (9 month connection), yr long classes that meet every day, 6 courses at a time

 

DHS:

 

4 x 4 block schedule

Semester schedule

1 set of classes 1st half, 2nd set of classes 2nd half

Matches college schedule

75 min classes – 5 days a week all semester long

8 courses a year (as many as)

Reduces study hall

“Flexibility” in programming

45-60 kids a semester per teacher

50-52 credits typically accomplished

Year Long classes- Maths- Pre Algebra, Algebra

English AP- 3 qtr

 

Need 41 cr to graduate

 

Notes:  Add/Drop after 2 weeks

Keep in the #’s directed studies (small study hall)

 

Supply FTE for each of the teachers

 

Contract states 5 classes per teacher; 100-125 teacher case load of students

 

  • Reviewed Teachers at each school and their assignments

DHS- Jump= Just Understand me Please (alt ed version of)

 

  • Reviewed sample student schedules of both PHS and DHS

 

It was decided to come back together with settled data once October 1st arrives as we report settled numbers to MEDMS (state)
