Role of the Subcommittee:

 

The Personnel Committee is responsible for reviewing and recommending to the School Committee salaries, benefits and policies for non-represented employees; parameters for negotiations; develop personnel policies for review and recommendation by the Policy Committee; design and implement the Superintendent’s evaluation process.

 

Activities and Accomplishments During 2008-2009:

  • Revised and SC approved Superintendent Job Description- Policy CBA
  • Reviewed Superintendent Policy – Policy CB
  • Revised and SC approved Superintendent evaluation policy and developed new performance assessment tool for evaluation and process- Policy CBI
  • Personnel Committee completed PPS Superintendent Search.  SC approved and hired Dr. James Morse Sr. with a start date of July 1, 2009.
  • Conducted workshop on current evaluation processes in place for all PPS employees
  • Conducted workshop with Michael F. Maciekowich from Astron Solution covering BASE employees salary compensation study
  • Settled contracts with BASE and PAA unions
  • Reviewed staffing for Special Ed.  Submitted summary of findings to Finance Committee December 2009
  • Reviewed staffing for all PPS High Schools- CBHS, DHA, PATHS and PHS.  Submitted summary of findings to Finance Committee December 2009

 

Key Priorities for 2009-2010:

·        Complete review of district wide evaluation processes for all PPS employees and make recommendations for possible changes in current evaluation processes.  Discussion has been to move evaluations to a comprehensive review (360 review) which includes feedback from peers, students and direct administrator.  Decided to start with Superintendent first which has been completed and now work with other units to emulate

·        Complete salary compensation district wide study for all employees (outside of BASE as this unit has been completed).  Present study to SC in the December 2009 timeframe.  Data compiled will be forwarded on the Finance Committee for compiling future budget(s).

·        Work with Benefits Manager to review current benefits packages offered to PPS employees and costs associated.
