The Office of Multilingual and Multicultural Programs offers technical assistance, training and support to teachers of English as a Second Language (ESL) and profesional development, diversity training, and support materials for all Portland Public Schools staff and administration, as well as collaborating agencies. We do initial intake, assessment, and placement for all students who are English language learners and we implement parent outreach programs to keep multilingual parents informed and involved in Portland Public Schools programs. This office also houses the Multilingual Resource Library, offering books, videos, and native language materials for teachers, students, and parents. ESL curriculum initiatives, and a theater project for elementary level language enhancement. Grant writing is an ongoing initiative.
