Denise Pressier, Lincoln Middle School physical education teacher, was recently recognized for her work to keep students heart healthy.

In November, Pressier was presented with the Hoops for Heart Coordinator of the Year award by Gary Urey from the American Heart Association.

The presentation took place at the 72nd Annual Conference of the Maine Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, held at the Samoset Resort in Rockland, Nov. 5 - 7.

Hoops/Jump Rope for Heart is a community service fundraiser to raise awareness of heart disease and stroke by teaching students how to take care of their hearts and ways to keep healthy. For more than a decade, Pressier has spearheaded this annual event at Lincoln with a heart-healthy celebration in February.  Funds raised from this event benefits the American Heart Association as well as Lincoln with educational information and fitness equipment.

“I do it during my PE classes to bring awareness to students about heart health and also to raise money for the American Heart Association's fight against heart disease,” Pressier has said.
