Chapter 104 students in several Portland elementary schools have been investigating environmental topics. They are posting their observations, feelings and information gathered in blog format on an ongoing basis. Students content is not edited, only monitored, by Mrs. Payton the Chapter 104 consultant ar Reiche, Presumpscot and Longfellow Schools. The writing on the blog is intended to be blog style rather than finished pieces, and students are communicating school to school through comments and responses to each other's ideas. Feel free to leave a comment when you visit.

Spotlight on Green is the 2008 literary magazine, a continuation and expansion of last year's Spotlight magazine. This year's topic was a natural extension of the blog many of these students were already contributing to. Kids chose topics they felt especially strong about and researched or created final products including fiction, poetry, research and reporting. Students read, discussed, drafted, interviewed and visited in preparation for what you will find in Spotlight on Green, including a beautiful photo essay of the Farmer's Market done by students from Presumpscot School and cover art designed by a Reiche 4th grader. Visit the blog to leave a magazine comment or email ivyr@portlandschools.org.
