STUDENT REPRESENTATION TO THE
PORTLAND BOARD OF PUBLIC EDUCATION
The Portland Board of Public Education (the Board) endorses the concept of student access to the district decision-making process, to provide advice and opinions on matters of common interest, and to enhance communication and a sense of community within the Portland Public Schools.
To create the environment for interaction among and between student representatives, Board members and district administration, the Board will provide opportunities for participation in the meetings of the Board and its Committees.
The names of one student from each of the three city high schools, one from the career and technical education center and one from the adult education program will be submitted by the end of October and will serve a one-year term. Elected student names will be forwarded through the Principals or Directors to the Superintendent for submission.
Student representatives will be recognized by the Board as non-voting members to the Board and invited to participate as voting members on standing committees, as appointed by the Board Chair.
