INTERPRETATION SERVICES FOR DEAF AND HARD-OF-HEARING STUDENTS AND FAMILY MEMBERS PROCEDURES

 

A.        The main telephone access to the central office building will provide TTY services and will have the ability to answer calls through the relay system.

 

B.        The notation of need for interpreters or TTY services shall be recorded in the student’s cumulative folder.

 

C.        Staff will inform the student or family member of the right to have an interpreter at no cost for effective communication in connection with school matters, such as parent/teacher conferences, disciplinary conferences, and PET meetings.

 

D.        Students or their family members may use other adult family members or adult friends as interpreters if they are willing and able to provide effective communication.  They, however, will first be offered access to interpreter services provided by the school at no cost.
