GIFTS FROM THE PUBLIC

The Portland Public Schools appreciates the generosity of individuals or groups in giving items of useful, historic, or commemorative nature to a school or the school system.

The School Committee shall formally accept, by Committee vote, gifts or bequests of a durable nature, of substantial value, or of historic or commemorative significance.  Should such gifts or bequests be for a designated or limited purpose, such purpose will be reviewed and considered by the School Committee.  Formal acceptance shall be deemed agreement with specific or limited purpose and as intent to utilize as designated.  All gifts become the property of the Portland Public Schools.

Persons or groups wishing to give gifts requiring School Committee acceptance as noted above, should contact the Superintendent of Schools or designee.  The Superintendent or designee shall review the proposed gift and make some recommendations on its acceptance to the School Committee.  School principals may accept, on behalf of their schools, non-durable gifts or gifts of limited monetary value upon permission of the Superintendent or designee.
