The school year is off to a strong start across the Portland Public Schools.

Students returned to classrooms, reconnected with friends, met new teachers, and began getting into the rhythm of a new year. Across our schools, staff worked hard to welcome students back and help make the transition into the first days of school as smooth and positive as possible.

Superintendent Scallon also spent the morning out in schools, greeting students as they arrived, visiting classrooms, and connecting with students and staff along the way. Judging by a few of the moments captured, he may have been getting a little too comfortable blending in with the students.

Thank you to our students, families, staff, and everyone who helped make the start of the school year a success. We’re looking forward to all that’s ahead.
