Promoting Gun Safety

Did you know that 4.6 million children in America live in homes with guns that are both loaded and unlocked? Every year in the United States, nearly 360 children aged 17 and under gain access to a firearm and unintentionally shoot themselves or someone else. More than 700 more die by suicide with a gun each year.

We have the power to prevent tragedies like these from happening. Everytown for Gun Safety Support Fund has developed the Be SMART framework to help parents and adults prevent child gun deaths and injuries.

Be SMART Program

Be SMART is a program developed by Everytown for Gun Safety Support Fund to bring together parents and all adults concerned about kids, guns, and safety.

Gun Safety Resources

We are encouraging all families to inform themselves about gun safety and learn about the Be SMART Campaign using the resources linked below.

Overview of the Be SMART Campaign

It is especially important to engage other families in a conversation about safe gun storage before your child goes to visit another household. This resource stresses the importance of asking about the presence of guns in a home before your child visits, including examples of effective conversation-starters:
