Assessment
The purpose of assessments is to provide a window into what students are thinking and learning, so that we, as educators, can reflect on our practices, and ultimately take action to ensure that all students are prepared and empowered. Vast educational inequities persist in education and those are often replicated in assessments. Our shared work by having an assessment strategy is to ensure inequities are not perpetuated by the assessments we utilize and to bring coherence and equitable practices for using assessments to our district. Once we trust that our assessments meet our criteria for equity and quality, the purpose of assessments is for educators to reflect in an ongoing way that improves outcomes for students. This is challenging work; assessments also offer an opportunity to work together to ensure clarity of what we see and believe, to collaboratively develop solutions, and ultimately take action that lead to more equitable outcomes for students.
