Assessment Letter & Dates 2024-2025

Dear Families,

A warm welcome to the 2024-2025 school year at Portland Public Schools! We look forward to an exciting and productive year, filled with new learning for students and staff alike. This letter provides information about the Maine Department of Education State Assessments that will be given to students throughout the district. These tests are used to help teachers understand the strengths and needs of their students. The results will also allow us to monitor student achievement at the grade, school, and district levels. This data helps us to set goals and plan learning experiences as the year progresses.

You will receive your child's test scores once they're made available by the Maine Department of Education. Please contact your child's teacher and school to learn more. In addition, a description of these tests will be available on our website. Parents have the right to request, and the district will provide, in a timely manner, information regarding student participation in any assessments mandated by the state or district

In compliance with the Maine Department of Education, Portland Public School employees will prohibit personal electronic devices during assessments. Unauthorized devices must be turned off and stored away from student work areas during assessment. Thank you for your support in this policy. As on regular learning days, we ask for your help in ensuring that children are prepared for the day and ready to do their best work.

Sincerely,
Hayley Didriksen
PPS Senior Director of Data and Assessment
