Chapter 104
Portland Public Schools’ Chapter 104 Resource Consultation and Collaboration Model is designed to pool the expertise of the General Education teacher and the Chapter 104 Consultant, foster equity across our elementary and middle schools, and enhance the dynamic relationships our classroom teachers have with their students. By regularly planning with teachers who deliver our above-the-standards curriculum, and by pushing into classrooms rather than pulling students from their classrooms, our formally identified students’ education is not disrupted; further, any student who is ready to exceed Maine's standards has access to more challenging curricula.
Once identified, we follow our students’ achievements and challenges in collaboration with families, their classroom teachers, and Student Support Services in order to determine how to build their social emotional skills alongside their academic endeavors.
