The Casco Bay High School Mock Trial Team wishes to express their gratitude to four more generous members of Maine’s legal community for helping to sponsor the team’s trip to the National High School Mock Trial Championship in Phoenix, Arizona, May 7-11.

“Thank you to the law firms of Perkins Thompson, Berman & Simmons and Mann Law, and also to the Maine Trial Lawyers Association,” said Jake McNally, Casco Bay math teacher and Mock Trial coach. “The generous support of these superior solicitors sponsors will help send the Casco Bay High School Mock Trial Team and coaches to compete against state championship teams from around the country.”

Casco Bay has been participating in Mock Trial for 10 years and this is believed to be the first time that a PPS high school team is going to the nationals. The team made it to the championship trial of the Maine State Mock Trial competition in late 2024 and earned an invitation to the nationals competition in May to represent Maine.

The national competition will be based on the following mock case titled State of Arizona v. Hollis Trimble: a criminal matter alleging that Phoenix real estate magnate and host of a viral podcast, Hollis Trimble,  attempted first-degree murder by the non-lethal shooting of investigative journalist, Lupé Campos.

The Casco Bay team began dissecting the case when it was released on April 1. Their first test will be a Zoom scrimmage against Minnesota state champions, Apple Valley High School, on April 27. In Phoenix they will spend two days scrimmaging against teams from Mississippi, Oregon, Wyoming, and Kansas before the competition starts on Friday May 9.

The goal of the Mock Trial program is promoting an understanding and appreciation of the American judicial system through academic competitions and other activities.
