Victory for Deering Debaters!
Deering High School Congressional Debaters placed 1st overall at the recent tournament held at Falmouth High School on November 16th! A huge shout-out to Sen. Zachary Lee for finishing 2nd in the chamber and Sen. Noah Rasheed for taking 3rd place.
Deering Students Excel at State Conference
Deering High School's Youth & Government Club attended the annual conference in Augusta the week of November 11th. Students participated in a variety of roles, including Representative, Senator, Governor's Cabinet member, and journalist. They engaged in committee work, bill review, and floor debates. The conference provided students with the opportunity to meet Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows, Attorney General Aaron Frey, and Governor Janet Mills. Additionally, Senior Eli Tuchinsky was recognized as Best Statesman, and Sophomore Safa Mohamed was sworn in as a future Supreme Court Justice.
Deering Math Teacher’s Research Published
Deering High School math teacher, Solomon Nkhalamba’s research, conducted during his graduate studies at the University of Southern Maine and further developed over the years, has been published in a renowned academic journal. Read the paper, titled "Analyzing product attributes and brand sentiment of smartwatches using Twitter/X data from a time series perspective." This publication is a notable accomplishment that highlights Mr. Nkhalamba's intellectual curiosity and commitment to his field.
