EECS Celebrate 5th Annual 'Danny Day'

East End Community School held its fifth annual celebration for beloved crossing guard Danny Lowe on June 3. Lowe, a young man with autism, has dedicated himself to helping students get safely across the intersection of North and Walnut streets since 2014. The school has celebrated him each spring, beginning in 2022. The day before the celebration, students, families and staff gathered to decorate the intersection with sidewalk chalk drawings and signs acknowledging the school community’s appreciation of Lowe's commitment to the safety of students. On June 3, when Lowe arrived for his morning shift, he was greeted by the decorations and also celebrated with balloons, bubbles, signs and cards. Check out these stories from local media about this heartwarming annual event, which means a lot to Danny and EECS students and families.
