Following a small fire incident at Lincoln Middle School on the afternoon of Thursday, Oct. 5, which resulted in student and staff evacuating the school, Principal Marisa Ayala send the following letter to the Lincoln families and staff:
Dear Lincoln Middle School Community,
A small fire in a first floor bathroom disrupted classes at our school this afternoon, but all students and staff were safely evacuated to the Deering High School field.
The small fire caused sprinklers to be activated in the boys’ bathroom on the first floor and the fire alarms at approximately 2:15 pm.
The school immediately evacuated. Buses were rerouted to the Deering field to take students home and parent pick-ups took place there.
The alarm is routed directly to the Portland Fire Department and they arrived at the school within minutes of the fire. They have started an investigation that is ongoing.
We take the safety of our students extremely seriously. We will take action at the school level to ensure that we continue to reiterate our commitment to safety and the actions of our staff and students to ensure that. Thank you to all our students and staff for following protocol and evacuating in a calm, orderly and safe manner.
We recognize that students may have left items in the building. They will be able to retrieve their belongings on Friday, October 6, from 8:30 - 10:30 a.m. or on Tuesday when we return to school.
We will return to regular school on Tuesday, October 10.
