Katie West, the district's experiential learning and environmental literacy coordinator, shared this account and photos of recent outdoor learning at East End Community School that the students joyfully embraced:
“In these days that have both a somewhat somber and frenetic uncertainty, I’m sharing a few images of the joy of our students.
These intrepid East End Community School kindergartners were outside completing a Habitat and Winter Discovery Walk as a part of their winter learning about animal friends in their year-long Integrated Wabanaki Studies/ Life Science Unit. They were led by Nika Grace, the environmental literacy teacher at EECS. It is special and unique that students all across an "urban" district in the Northeast are connecting with the world around them on a cold winter day, seeing the life that sustains us all.
Clearly, the delight is evident. May it warm your day in the coldness of these times!”
