As part of the Civics and Government Unit that Lyman Moore Middle School sixth-graders are engrossed in, a virtual forum for Portland City Council and Board of Public Education candidates was held at Moore on Oct. 28. Students had the opportunity to ask the candidates questions, both political and personal.
Many of the students say this has been their favorite units or one of their favorites. A lot of research and learning went into prepping for the forum. They were very excited to interact with the candidates they had come to know through research. Next, students will participate in a mock election on Election Day and the results will be tallied. Social studies teacher David Hilton did most of the heavy lifting to make these experiences possible for students.
