Portland Adult Education (PAE) invites community members to attend a special forum hosted by ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) students. With election day fast approaching, this timely event will provide an opportunity for PAE students to engage with state and local leaders on pressing issues such as housing, immigration, gun violence, and transportation.
The event will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 29, from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. at the Rines Auditorium at the Portland Public Library.
Distinguished panelists include:
Sarah Lawrence, District Representative, U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree's Office
Deqa Dhalac, State Representative, South Portland
Claude Rwaganje, City Councilor, Westbrook
Sarah Lentz, Chair, Portland Board of Public Education
This event will showcase the efforts of 75 PAE students, ranging in age from 20 to 86, who hail from countries across the globe (including Somalia, Guinea, Turkey, Angola, DRC, the Dominican Republic, Sudan, and Congo Brazzaville.) Students will ask prepared questions about issues they have been researching and discussing in their classes. The forum is part of a larger initiative aimed at educating PAE students about the U.S. government and the importance of civic engagement.
This event is free and open to the public, but space is limited. Please reserve your spot on Eventbrite.
Thank you to Friends of Portland Adult Education and to the Portland Public Library for making this event possible!
