PATHS car show Sept. 21, 2024 Photo of cars

The first PATHS SkillsUSA Car Show on Sept 21 was an overwhelming success, surpassing expectations for the inaugural event, according to Kevin Stilphen, director of PATHS (Portland Arts and Technology High School).

“A total of 64 vehicles were showcased, ranging from classic muscle cars and resto-mods to timeless classics and everything in between, drawing a crowd of car enthusiasts from various backgrounds,” Stilphen said. “The variety of cars on display highlighted the rich diversity of automotive culture, providing something for everyone to admire.”

Paul Fearon, PATHS Automotive Technology program instructor, added, "The day was made even more special with live music provided by our talented PATHS Music Program. Guests enjoyed delicious food prepared by our Culinary and Food Service programs, adding to the festive atmosphere."

The event was a fundraiser and also succeeded in that, Stilphen said. “In addition to being a memorable gathering for car lovers, the event also served a crucial purpose: raising funds for the PATHS SkillsUSA chapter,’ he said. “Through the collective efforts of organizers, participants, and attendees, the show managed to raise an impressive $3,000. These funds will support student involvement in SkillsUSA, an organization dedicated to preparing students for careers in trade, technical, and skilled service occupations.”

Fearon expressed gratitude to the event's supporters. "A special thank you to our incredible sponsors: Yankee Ford Sales, Casco Bay Ford, Performance Food Service, Allen, Sterling & Lothrop, NAPA Westbrook, and Theriault Chiropractic," Fearon said, "Your support made this event possible!"

He added, "Thank you to everyone who participated—whether you entered a car, enjoyed the show, or supported our cause."

PATHS now plans to put on the show each year. “Given the success of this first show, PATHS is excited to establish this as an annual event, with hopes of growing participation and community engagement in the years to come,” Stilphen said.
