Brook Trout Raised by Lyman Moore Students Find New Home in Presumpscot River

The Portland Water District facilitates the TroutKids Program for schools within the Portland Water District service area and Sebago Lake Watershed to raise brook trout in their classrooms during the winter, and release the fry in a local stream in the late spring. In early February, both 7th grade science classrooms at Lyman Moore received 300 brook trout eggs to care for until early May. On May 4th and 5th, the students were able to use the new knowledge they had gained from the program to conduct a habitat and water quality assessment on the Presumpscot River. They determined the river would provide a suitable habitat for their fry, and said their goodbyes to the creatures they had been tending to for the past 3 months.
