May 8-12 is National Teacher Appreciation Week so this is an opportune time to read this blog featuring Nabaa Alobaidi, a refugee from Iraq who is now an educational technician at Deering High School, where she teaches Arabic. Nabba was hired for that position after attending the Education Academy, a program of the New Mainers Resource Center at Portland Adult Education, which prepares internationally trained immigrants and refugees to enter the education workforce.
