The Portland Public Schools sends its deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of James Maloney Jr., better known as Buzz, who passed away Dec. 27. Buzz, 81, was passionate about teaching, and spent nearly 40 years teaching history, social studies, and English in the Portland Public Schools. Outside the classroom, he was known to many as “Coach Buzz.” He coached football at Lincoln Middle School early in his career, but his real passion was coaching track. His daughter, Kristen Flaherty, is also a member of the PPS family, teaching at Presumpscot Elementary School. Read Buzz’s obituary.
