A celebration of the new Congolese-American picture book “Kende! Kende! Kende!” and of the vibrant African community will be held Saturday, Nov. 9 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the East End School Community Room, 195 North Street. Free admission!
The book features a childhood in the Democratic Republic of Congo filled with laughter and curiosity. The event will include a book signing by co-authors Yaya Gentille and Kirsten Cappy; a book giveaway of Kende! Kende! Kende!; a multilingual Read Aloud; a wintry photo booth; a giant puzzle; an outdoor StoryWalk; and food from many African communities.
The book is bilingual French/English with action words in Lingala. The book also offers audio read-alouds in Arabic, English, French, Kinyarwanda, Lingala, Portuguese, and Swahili — all delivered by the QR Code in the front of the book!
