In partnership with the Portland Board of Public Education and many others, Superintendent Ryan Scallon has spent his first three months with the district engaged in a listening and learning tour with the community. Across more than 16 forums, he has heard from more than 500 students, staff, families, community members, business leaders, elected officials, and nonprofit partners. He also reviewed data from a community Listen and Learn Survey in September, which received more than 925 responses, and data from past surveys, including the student climate, parent survey, TNTP, and the Superintendent Search surveys. At the Board’s Oct. 3 business meeting, Superintendent Scallon provided a high-level overview of the trends and themes from the Listen and Learn phase. Click HERE to learn about what he shared. Watch his presentation on YouTube. (The presentation begins at about 22 minutes and 30 seconds into the meeting.) The next phase is developing a strategic plan grounded in all the data collected.
