On March 7, pre-K students at Lyseth Elementary School held a Celebration of learning. “This was the culmination of our "World of Color Unit," the completion of our Side x Side project, and a showcase of the children's art and writing,” explained teacher Christine Wirth. “We were able to welcome Samira Cole Doyon, author of "Magnificent Homespun Brown," one of the titles that inspired the children's handprint collage. Our Side x Side teaching artist, Meg Christie, worked with us for a few months and we were able to act out the story "Waiting is not Easy," by Mo Willems, and have a dance party. The children had pizza and ice cream they made themselves. At the end of the event, each child was able to take home four new books, provided by Side x Side and the Dolly Parton literacy grant. Our Community coordinator, Sylvie Montello, was able to get each child a new stuffed animal. Thanks to all of the families, Side x Side, and Lyseth Principal Sara Goodall, for making this amazing event happen!”
