In a concurrent enrollment partnership with the University of Maine at Augusta, students in the Portland Arts & Technology High School (PATHS) Cybersecurity Program are able to earn college credit and save money while in high school.
UMA reported that for the 2022-2023 school year, PATHS, in partnership with UMA, offered one section of ISS210 Introduction to Information Systems Security taught by Nathan Jalbert. Ten students were registered in that concurrent enrollment course over the span of the academic year, accounting for a total of 30 credit hours earned by students accessing the program. These credits will go on official UMA transcripts. This represented a total of $4,147.50 in tuition waivers granted by the Maine Department of Education and $5,230.00 in tuition and fees waived by UMA, for a total savings of $9,377.50 for PATHS students.
Students in Cybersecurity Program also earn industry-recognized certification while at PATHS. “This is only one example of value-added education opportunities that students can earn when they attend PATHS,” said PATHS Director Kevin Stilphen.
