For the second year in a row, the Portland Public Schools has achieved gold status as a Northeast Behavior Interventions and Supports (NEPBIS) District of Distinction. This honor is awarded to districts that have met rigorous criteria for implementing district level Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and have a high percentage of schools that have met the benchmark for Tier 1 PBIS fidelity. Having schools reach this Tier 1 benchmark is listed as one of PPS’ measures in the strategic plan. Positive growth toward the five-year goal has been ongoing, particularly through the addition of the new Culture and Climate Coordinator positions at the elementary and secondary schools.
The Portland Public Schools will be recognized at the NEPBIS conference in Mystic, Connecticut in May and will be awarded a certificate and banner to recognize this accomplishment. The banner for the 2023-2024 school year currently hangs in the front entrance to the district’s Central Office
Congratulations to the members of the Portland Public Schools’ District PBIS Team and to all the schools working hard to implement Tier 1 PBIS throughout the district!
