This year’s Read Across America Day at Rowe Elementary School was totally awesome! Rowe welcomed volunteer readers from the community to read stories to students. Those readers included WMTW Channel 8 TV anchors Meghan Torjusson and Jessica Gagne and meteorologists Colleen Hurley and Ted McInerney. Other community readers were Rylee Pay and Slugger from the Portland Sea Dogs; Renee Kuel from the University of Southern Maine Osher Map Library; Evans Boston, communications director for the Maine Celtics; and Sarah Crommitt from the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland.

School staff also joined in. Rowe Principal Bill Anton, Assistant Principal Melissa Richard, physical education teacher Rene Custeau and beloved Rowe head custodian Mark Madison also read to several classes as well.

In addition, Superintendent Ryan Scallon and PPS Executive Director of People and Equity Barrett Wilkinson read to students,  helping to celebrate reading and community for all of Rowe School.
