Support Following the Election

The election results have produced a range of emotions in a community as diverse as ours. After the election, we are seeing and hearing that some students are experiencing higher levels of anxiety. We want to reassure everyone that our schools remain safe and supportive environments for all students.

Some of this anxiety is associated with immigration fears.  We are committed to protecting all our students' right to education. Schools are dedicated spaces for learning, support, and community—not places for immigration enforcement activities. In March 2017, the Portland Board of Public Education passed a resolution titled “Affirming Our Commitment to the Education of All Children & Making Portland Public Schools a Safe Haven for Students and Families.”

If you would like additional support, please do not hesitate to reach out to the guidance counselors and social workers at our schools.
