On Saturday, April 22, Earth Day, a team of parent, student, and community member volunteers helped to revitalize the garden at Ocean Avenue Elementary School (OAES). What a transformation! The volunteer team built four accessible raised beds, mulched the new perimeter beds, moved granite (!) to build the central keystone bed, and created four additional circle beds. Thank you to the many businesses and local organizations that donated compost, food, and other supplies to make this day possible.
The goal of the garden revitalization is to create a welcoming, creative, and educational outdoor space that can be utilized by the entire school community. The OAES Garden Committee is working on a plan to create a native plant/pollinator-friendly garden that will also feature annual vegetables, flowers, and herbs. There will be additional garden volunteer opportunities coming up this spring and summer. Interested in helping? Email volunteer@oapto.org to get on the volunteer opportunities mailing list!
