CBHS Students Pen Winning Essays

A Casco Bay High School sophomore has won a statewide essay competition about a teacher at the school who made a difference and a Casco Bay junior earned an Honorable Mention for his tribute to a former teacher at Ocean Avenue Elementary School.

As part of #LoveTeaching appreciation week (held Feb. 13-17), Maine students were invited to take part in a writing contest to talk about teachers who have made a difference in their lives. Casco Bay sophomore Jo Ellis, who represents the school on the Board of Public Education, won the statewide essay competition writing about a teacher who made a difference: Casco Bay humanities/social studies teacher Matt Bernstein, who is the 2023 Maine Teacher of the Year.

Also, Casco Bay junior Everett Dietlin earned an Honorable Mention for his tribute to fifth-grade teacher Cathy Gurney at Ocean Avenue Elementary School.
