On June 9, King Middle School teacher Patrick Abedi’s sixth- and seventh-grade ELL class fundraised and then cooked and ate traditional Congolese dishes made by both Mr. Abedi and students’ parents at King. The goal behind the luncheon was to honor those new to Maine with foods from back home, and to provide a sense of belonging through sharing these foods with staff and faculty at King.
Mr. Abedi fundraised more than $500 in donations and cash funds to provide the students with plenty of dishes from back home including fried chicken, fish, fried plantains, fufu, pondu, barbecued steak, rice and much more! King extends big thanks to all the moms who volunteered their time to cook for their class! Also, everyone is very grateful to Mr. Abedi for his work to make such a special day possible.
