The student-built PATHS Sugar House, which opened last spring, will participate in Maine Maple Sunday, March 26, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Maine Maple Sunday is an annual event when the state’s sugarhouses offer maple syrup samples and demonstrations on how Maine maple syrup is made. Once again this year, the Portland Arts and Technology High School (PATHS) will be among the farms and other maple producers showcasing the sweet stuff.
The Sugar House, located on the grounds of the school at 196 Allen Avenue, is used by PATHS students in the Landscapes & Gardens program to learn about trees as they collect sap and boil it down to create maple syrup to use in the school’s culinary program. The Maple Sunday celebration is an annual event that gives students an opportunity to plan and engage in an agritourism event.
