Portland High School sophomore William Guerin recently delivered an outstanding performance with the Portland Symphony Orchestra, according to Julianne Eberl, Portland Public Schools music director and conductor of the Portland Public Schools High School Orchestra.
William is the concertmaster of the PPS orchestra, and also is the concertmaster of the University of Southern Maine Portland Youth Symphony Orchestra. That USM orchestra is a distinguished organization that is highly competitive, with students accepted through rigorous auditions, Eberl said.
Then, on Sunday, March 26, William shone in a performance with the Portland Symphony Orchestra, playing side-by-side at the first music stand with PSO's concertmaster Charles Dimmick. William also performed a solo duet with Dimmick. Eberl said a PSO violist shared with her “what a superb job William did preparing for the concert and his solo, and how well he played at the performance.”
Eberl added that William’s performance with PSO was even more impressive given that he was also concertmaster for the PPS All-City Concert just days before. “I am so proud of his leadership, musicianship and what a fantastic role model he is for all our students,” Eberl said.
