Student Work on Display at Museum for Youth Art Month

Creative artwork from Portland Public Schools students is included in the Portland Museum of Art’s annual Youth Art Month exhibition showcasing the incredible talent of art education programs across Maine. Youth Art Month, a collaboration of the PMA with the Maine Art Education Association that takes place each year in March, also is an opportunity to highlight art educators and the importance of and access to quality art programs.

The exhibition of more than 80 selections of artwork from Maine students statewide in kindergarten through grade 12 is located on the lower ground floor of the PMA. The show began Feb. 28 and runs through March 31. The artwork can be viewed in person at the museum and also on the museum’s website. Learn more and view the artwork.

On its website, the museum also features art teachers from around the state.Deering High School art teacher Emily Serway is among those featured. Serway talks about her dedication to art education and why it’s so important. Learn more about Serway and her teaching HERE.

Artwork: Shown above is an untitled drawing by Portland High School junior Elisabeth Wallace in teacher Louis Lachapelle's class. Below is a ceramic sculpture by Deering High School senior Daniel Landry in teacher Chad Hart's class, titled "Vase of Roses."
