As everyone knows, payroll issues caused tremendous disruption for many Portland Public Schools employees during the last school year. At that time, in addition to working to make everyone whole, we committed to a long-term solution to make sure that those problems do not reoccur. This school year, we are partnering with ADP, an industry leader in payroll and human resources solutions, in that promised long-term payroll solution.
As of Jan. 1, 2024, all our employees were introduced to new pay and time software called ADP Workforce Now. It’s an easy-to-use, self-service way to manage all things HR through the ADP online portal. Employees can quickly and easily do such things as view pay statements, view and/or adjust tax documentation, update personal information, enroll in direct deposit and request and submit time off and view time-off balances. The Portland Public Schools has more than 1,400 employees and a large and complex payroll. While there have been bumps in the road while implementing the new system over the past six months, we quickly address any issues that arise. Our goal is to get to a space where there are zero payroll issues – and the HR and payroll teams have made significant progress in this area over the last year.
