PPS Wins Gold ‘District of Distinction’ for PBIS Work

The Portland Public Schools was awarded the honor of "District of Distinction" Gold Level at the Northeast Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (NEPBIS) Leadership Forum in May, based on the district’s PBIS implementation efforts. PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) is an evidence-based, tiered framework for supporting students’ behavioral, academic, social, emotional, and mental health.

Joanna Frankel, the district’s Director of Elementary Culture and Climate; Chris Reiger, Director of Secondary Culture and Climate; and Jessie McCallum, SEL Coach at Reiche Community School, attended the NEPBIS forum in Connecticut. Dr. Reiger and Ms. Frankel led a presentation on adapting schoolwide PBIS systems to support school culture and Ms. Frankel and Ms. McCallum sat on a panel about district support for PBIS.
