The Portland Board of Public Education wants to engage city residents in a discussion on school funding in order to maintain fiscal integrity and public confidence and ensure wise stewardship of taxpayer resources.

To that end, the board’s Policy and Public Affairs Committee and Superintendent Xavier Botana invite Portland residents to a public “Funding for Our Future” forum on Saturday, Feb. 10, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Casco Bay High School. The forum will be in room 200, which is located on the second floor of the building at 196 Allen Avenue.

The forum will include a look at the basic building blocks of education funding, including a broad overview of the revenues that fund the Portland Public Schools and a breakdown of the district’s major expenses. The board and the superintendent would also like to hear from the community about what they most value about education in the Portland Public Schools and suggestions on ways to allocate resources to best meet the needs of all students.

Residents can participate in person or can attend the forum virtually. The event will be broadcast live on TV 3 and can be streamed live on any device.
