As a learning theme this fall, the upper-level ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) classes at Portland Adult Education are studying the community of Portland. On Oct. 30, three staff members (two teachers and a volunteer) dressed as Portland landmarks as a little Halloween activity for their classes. One landmark portrayed was Portland’s Time and Temperature building. That structure was used as a springboard for an English lesson about the building and its varied messages and the meaning of the word “landmark.”
Shown in the photos are teachers Nancy Fox (dressed as Portland Harbor), Shoshana Hoose (dressed as the Time and Temperature building) and Val Healey, volunteer.
