Nearly 80 percent of the Deering High School seniors playing spring varsity sports recently earned Southwestern Maine Activities Association (SMAA) All Academic Awards. The awards require that student-athletes be seniors and have a GPA of 93 or higher.
“Well done,” said DHS Athletic Director Mel Craig. “This spring season is the highest percentage of senior student-athletes earning this award in my 24 seasons here at Deering. Incredible work by our spring student-athletes and the staff who support them in and out of the classroom!”
She said there are 45 senior student-athletes on eight spring varsity teams and 35 of those senior student-athlete won All Academic Awards.
