Casco Bay High School 11th-graders are looking for nominations of local heroes they can interview and then showcase and honor in a live performance presentation of their The People of Portland Project, 2020.

Here’s the students’ message:

“Who do you know whose story should be heard? Who has inspired you – and would inspire all of us if we knew them and their story? CBHS juniors are looking for people in the Portland area to interview and then showcase and honor in a live performance presentation. In the media age, we hear much from or about the famous, rich, and powerful, while our neighbors are quietly living heroic, brave lives – in small and big ways. We know there are many in our community who have shown immense courage, resilience and strength in the face of hardship or injustice. Most of us are not listening closely enough to those who are different from ourselves. We want to listen to these everyday people and we want to bring their stories to life for all of us to experience. Nominate now … nominations are due before Nov. 12!”

The students caution those nominating to check with their nominees to make sure they’re willing to participate.  The nominator and nominee can fill out the online nomination form together HERE

The nominees must be people who live in the Portland area and who can be available in late January and early February for two different one-hour interviews during school hours of 9 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Interview #1 is currently scheduled for January 29th and 30th. Interview #2 is currently scheduled for February 4th and 5th. (Students can be flexible with location and prefer traveling to the interviewee.)

CBHS juniors will read through all the nominations and select 22 people for the project.

They will then reach out to those selected and work to set up specific appointments.

The students’ final message is: “This has been an incredibly powerful process in the past for all those involved, and we hope you will help us find these stories.”
