Food Fuels Learning (FFL), whose mission it is to build food security in schools through comprehensive research and community-based action, recently featured King Middle School’s Food Waste Expedition in the FFL newsletter.
Here’s the write-up:
Students at King Middle School kicked off an in-depth food waste project, Moosehead Food Waste Expedition, with a Plate Waste Assessment in November.
At lunch, they recorded the plate weights before students sat down and after they were finished eating. They also took time-stamped pictures at each weighing to assess different factors that might play into food waste.
They will compile their findings in a report for the school along with recommendations to reduce food waste at school lunch.
