Molly Myers has been named the Portland Public Schools’ new Academic Supports and Transition Coordinator. Her role will include overseeing the summer school program for more than 1,300 students and supporting the district’s Barr Foundation work to collect data on how the district currently supports students across the system.

Meyers previously served as the district’s summer program coordinator in 2019. She previously taught social studies in Lewiston and Wiscasset, and worked as a senior associate at the Great Schools Partnership.

Prior to moving to Maine, Molly served in a variety of education roles.  She taught social studies for 16 years in the Chicago Public Schools—including world studies, gender studies, advanced placement U.S. history, and human geography.  There she held many leadership roles, including starting and coordinating a freshman academy to support students transitioning to high school, leading a student voice committee and supporting teachers in proficiency-based teaching practices.

From 2017-2018, Meyers served as an instructional coach at Leyden High School District 212, a two high-school district in the near suburbs of Chicago. She focused specifically on the use of standards, instructional outcomes, and assessments to drive learning, as well as providing support to a pilot team of teachers to create an interdisciplinary, project-based learning experience for ninth-graders.

In her free time, Meyers likes to spend time with her family, read books, and write letters. After 25 years of living in a big city, she is particularly excited to reconnect with nature in Maine.
