School Meals during the 2020-2021 School Year
Updated 11/10/20
The U.S. Department of Agriculture has made school meals free for all students this school year, due to the pandemic. So, whether your student is attending in-person school or is in the Remote Academy, encourage them to enjoy our free school breakfasts and lunches!
FOOD DISTRIBUTION
* K-8 schools will serve breakfast and snack in the classroom or outside. These meals are pre-packaged in a single serving container (box or bag). Grab & Go Lunches will be available to be taken home at the end of the day.
* High schools will serve breakfast in school. Grab & Go lunches are available to be taken home at end of day.
* For in-person students on remote days and for Remote Academy students, ‘grab and go’ breakfast and lunch will be available to pick-up at the following SCHOOL DISTRIBUTION SITES from 1-2 pm daily, Monday through Friday:
Casco Bay High School, 196 Allen Avenue
Deering High School, 370 Stevens Avenue
Portland High School, 284 Cumberland Avenue
Talbot Elementary School (formally Riverton), 1600 Forest Avenue
NOTE: In a RED scenario (if the district goes back to full remote learning), the sites would be: Deering High, Portland High, Casco Bay High, Presumpscot Elementary, Reiche Elementary, Rowe Elementary, and Talbot Elementary
For more information, see the Food Service information on the Reopening Resources site on our website.
Also, even though the meals are free this year, we could really use your help – by filling out your Free and Reduced Meal Application or Income Survey forms! Filling out these forms will help PPS qualify for grants and programs that can benefit your student and other students.
The Locker Project
In addition to the food provided by the School District, nonprofit The Locker Project will be providing limited quantities of pre-packaged food at the school distribution sites from 1pm-2pm on the following days:
Monday: Casco Bay High School
Tuesday: Talbot Elementary (formerly Riverton)
Thursday: Deering High School
Friday: Portland High School
This food may be picked up in addition to the food provided by the school district. Locker Project will have 25 pre-packaged food available at each school. First come, first served.
